MILLIKAN APPARATUS
Millikan Apparatus Determine (e) 2 ways Now with one piece of apparatus you can perform the Millikan experiment. All you need do is plug it into a 110VAC outlet. All connections are made inside the box. The microscope, illuminator, 0-500VDC power supply, even the spray bottle containing the convenient to use latex spheres is attached to this compact work station. Controls include a power switch, reversing switch, voltmeter for reading plate voltage and potentiometer for the fine control of plate voltages. The charge of the electron (e) can be determined by two methods: Cause a latex sphere to be suspended in the high voltage field; or select a sphere and let it fall through a measured distance with no electric field present, then apply an electric field and observe the velocity as it rises. This easy to use unit is 20 x 26 x 23 cm.
Economy Millikan Apparatus
Charging an oil droplet is a difficult task for most students. Latex spheres are a good alternative since they are easier to use and charge. A microscope, potentiometer for adjusting voltage, parallel plate, focusing light, reversing switch and an atomizing sphere to hold latex spheres are contained in a single housing. A vernier control knob allows critical focusing of the light and a special mirror arrangement makes the spheres appear to fall down rather than up. This apparatus is an excellent introductory Millikan apparatus at an affordable price. Required Accessories A 6-6.3 VAC power supply for the light source, a 200-500 VDC power source for the Millikan apparatus. Also needed is a high impedance 0-500 VDC Voltmeter.
